Projects

Gary Karpen and colleagues We have some interesting comparisons of repeat content for homologs of D. melanogaster heterochromatic genes in the other genomes. Predicts het. vs euch. location, which we are confirming experimentally. We have started preparing a paper on this.

Pat Heslop-Harrison and colleagues We are investigating the evolutionary mechanisms of satellite DNA within various Drosophila species. Current experimental work focusses on the seven species in the D. buzzatii cluster, with appropriate outgroups for comparison. Guto Kuhn initiated this work (see publications in Pubmed[[1]]) and this is now being extended.
